What if you want a silk press? Trust a professional hair stylist to help with that! A silk press is a delicious style for natural hair that requires a lot of love and, a minimum of 6 inches in length. Long gone are the days of the press and curl, the silk press is a process of blow drying the hair after shampooing and conditioning, and then using a ceramic iron to smooth out the curl and give the hair a silky texture.
The silk press, if properly maintained, can last up to two weeks. A protein treatment and trim will prolong the style. If you’ve been wearing braids for a while, we recommend a strengthening therapy, a protein based treatment for weakened or damaged hair.
Your silk press at-home care should include NO HEAT, but instead, daily use of a light oil or serum to smooth and maintain the hair’s shine. Two products we highly recommend are the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Styling Treatment Oil or Silkology Silkit Hi-Gloss Serum, both available at Karline’s Salon. At night, pull out your KS Satin gear: the KS SatinStyleGuard (wrap cap) and the KS Satin pillowcase. During exercise and workouts, apply your oil or serum and wear the satin cap. And don’t forget to schedule your salon appointment every two weeks.
